Ft. Loramie Students Make an Impact at Elizabeth New Life Center

In the small town of Fort Loramie, where community values run deep, 42 students from Fort Loramie High School embarked on a journey with Magnified Giving in their Leadership class during the fall semester of 2023. Spearheaded by their passionate teacher, Tricia Alexander, the students dove into the heart of social causes through open group discussions, and the impact they made was powerful.

A group of Ft. Loramie visits Elizabeth New Life Center to learn more about their mission and drop off items purchased to support their work.

One standout practice in Fort Loramie's Magnified Giving program was their initial exploration of nonprofit organizations through Magnified Giving’s database of registered nonprofits. Using the tool to identify a plethora of local and broader organizations supporting different missions broadened the students' perspectives. Before their experience, most students were only familiar with a few local organizations, but Ms. Alexander feels that the research and exploration process opened students’ eyes to many more organizations and helped them discover different organizations supporting similar missions that interested them.

Overall, groups of students dug deeper to learn about 11 organizations. Their advocacy reached creative heights, with students crafting social cause videos that shared about the mission of their chosen nonprofit and explained how the agency would use the $1,000 Magnified Giving grant. Creating these videos was a meaningful opportunity to build skills and served as an important advocacy tool. Students shared their videos with peers and school staff to vote upon, ensuring that multiple groups in the school learned about new missions and agencies and were able to contribute to the decision-making process.

Students developed meaningful connections with local nonprofits that led to opportunities for students to give of their time, talent, and treasure. One example of this is a group of students who built a tangible connection with the Elizabeth New Life Center, an organization that provides free and confidential service to women who are pregnant or may be pregnant. Through their services, they connect and provide support for those in need, while helping enrich and grow their community. The group working with Elizabeth New Life Center organized a heartwarming girls' night for pre-k through 3rd grade students. Over 80 students attended! The group used funds raised from admission to purchase needed items for Elizabeth New Life Center, and they were able to raise awareness for the organization with a new audience. These high school students showcased how dedication and creativity can transform a simple gathering into a meaningful impact.

Fort Loramie's journey with Magnified Giving during Fall 2023 was a testament to young minds' impact when empowered with the tools to create change. Through advocacy, connection, and creative fundraising, they've not only supported Elizabeth New Life Center but also gifted them a $1,000.00 grant provided by Magnified Giving! The Magnified Giving journey at Fort Loramie is more than a program; it's a catalyst for shaping the compassionate leaders of tomorrow. Magnified Giving congratulates Ms. Alexander, her students, and the administration at Fort Loramie High School and Upper Valley Career Center for embracing this meaningful process for their students and community!
